PUES VA A SER QUE... PAT BENATAR NO ERA CINDY LAUPER

Contra pronóstico o lo que antigua y actualmente pudiera parecer, Pat Benatar y Cindy Lauper no son la misma persona. (OO!) Se criaron en Nueva York, comparten una trayectoria musical parecida... estilos similares... Incluso la voz podría resultarte familiar cuando canta alguna de las dos. En otras palabras, vamos, que podrían haber sido hermanas de sangre de no ser porque las dos nacieron el mismo año (1953) pero no!:

Mientras en un principio fueron catalogados bajo la etiqueta de grupo new wave o sytnh pop ( y eternamente comparados con los compañeros de trayectoria Duran Duran), el cantante y letrista Mark Hollis y su banda, pronto se alejaron de los convencionalismos de la época, evolucionando hasta alcanzar sonidos más complejos y experimentales hacia el final de su carrera.
Sustituyeron aquel sonido rock y de sintetizadores que tan buena respuesta comercial había proporcionado hasta la fecha (allá por el 88) por la introducción de cuerda, arreglos jazzsísticos y blues, lo que acabó volviendo locos a los de la discográfica por un resultado tan poco "vendible"

La tarea de catalogar su esperado trabajo se hizo verdaderamente difícil. No hubo singles de promoción, tampoco vídeos, ni giras (debido a la dificultad de llevar a directo tan complejo trabajo) , por lo que Lp's de gran calidad como "Spirit Of Eden" y "Laughing Stock", obtendrían el reconocimiento años más tarde.

Siento una especial debilidad por esta artista. Auténtica genia. Llegó de la mano de David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) cuando todavía era una jovenzuela . Posee una voz prodigiosa y es la total responsable de ese sonido "raro " y experimental de todos sus temas. -De quién habrán mamado Bjork o Tori Amos? - ;)

Dicen que sus canciones son difíciles de escuchar y que peca de ruidiosa o excéntrica, y de hecho, estoy segura que con ella pasa como con otros muchos artistas: o te gusta muchísimo o lo destierras para siempre. En mi caso fue un flechazo, y le presté atención gracias a una película de corte romántico de la que espero algún día saber el título (quizá algun/a entendido/a sepa decirme el nombre, la BSO era en su totalidad de Kate Bush).

Para mi ha sido un placer indagar sobre su vida e incluso descubrir rarezas (en directo) que rondaban por la red. A aquellas gentes a las que no les guste nada, que no se preocupen... porque algún día ..., les gustará. :)

Podría hablar largo y tendido de este fantástico músico rumano. Antes de crear Enigma, Michael Cretu había participado en otros proyectos como Moti Special y Sandra (para la que habrá otro post, por supuesto) Como curiosidad, también colaboró como teclista de Boney M, allá por los 70. E inició también su carrera en solitario (con temas como Samurai, ¿os acordáis?)


De todos los discos, obviamente me quedo con el primero ( MCMXC a .D.), por todo lo que éste significó para el mundo de la música: la mezcla poco convencional de los cantos gregorianos, con bases rítmicas, flauta y voces infinatamente sensuales (que le hacía su misma esposa, la susodicha Sandra). Y de paso, ese misterio que envolvía el proyecto, sin referencias claras de los artistas que en él participaban (Cretu firmaba las canciones como Curly): no había una imagen que liderada el grupo, actuaciones en directo o esperadas entrevistas.

Una combinación perfecta para la venta millonaria de copias.

A mí, particularmente, me dio vueltas la cabeza con este disco al que dedico por entero este post. Jamás en mi fonoteca sonó tanto un vinilo, cassette o CD. Y es que me gustan absolutamente todos los cortes.

HAZTE UN CD SPAGHETTI

El término "italo-music" o "música spaghetti" se creó a principios de los 80 para denominar el estilo que se desarrollaba en países como Alemania, Holanda, España o Italia y que difería de la música procedente de Inglaterra o EE UU. El método estaba basado sobre todo en la mezcla de sintetizadores, cajas de ritmo y melodías muy pegadizas.

Es cierto que este tipo de música tuvo muchos detractores en su momento (y los sigue teniendo en la actualidad) , y quizá nos sonrojemos al escucharlas de nuevo... pero... por qué negar que fue un boom en ventas, y que esa moda nos duró... años!

1. "A taste of love" (1983) Den Harrow, años después he descubierto que no cantaba él (Stefano Zandri)! Un producto donde la música era de unos, la voz de otros, y suya la imagen. (y la que se armó con mis Milli Vanilli, qué!)

2. "Take me up" (1984) Scotch, qué monería de canción, tan tiernica...

3. "Hypnotic tango" (1983) My mine, más modernilla...

4. "Fotonovela" (1984) Iván, como ejemplo de lo que se hacía en nuestro país... (tú para mí eresss la estrella jejej) Muy bonica también. Me recuerda sobre todo a mi prima Sita, y a cómo nos arreglábamos para salir a dar una vuelta por el pueblo en verano.

5. "I like Chopin" (1983) Gazebo, ohhhhh ese pianillo.

6. "Bolero (Hold me in your arms again)" (1986) Fancy, uffff, mi segunda más favorita. De pequeña, entraba a comprar helados a un chiringuito de la playa que por la noche se transformaba en el local más popular de la ciudad... Sonaba ésto, claro.
Salía yo luego emocionada de aquel resbaladizo chiringo, como si de repente me hubiera hecho mayor (había entrado en una discoteca! aunque fuera de día!)
